Day 56 – Canadian Geese
The wind was howling today at around 25mph with gusts around 35mph. Only four of us braved the weather to attend the outing at Dryden Lake today. Because it was so windy (and because I have poor eyesight and wear contacts and can’t manually focus well) many of my shots weren’t as sharp as they could have been. This is the best one of the geese that I have.

After walking the old railroad bed, we started heading back. Lake effect snow started coming down so hard we could only see about 150 feet. Two of us decided to go look at the lake from another trail so we drove over to it. The snow let up a little but the wind was blowing down the lake and kicking up the snow so the visibility still wasn’t good. As we began walking the trail my camera backpack zippers opened the bag like a banana peel, exposing my lenses and allowing one to crash into the snow covered ground…where it broke in two. Thank God it wasn’t my 12-24mm! I’ve tried to put the pieces back together but the autofocus no longer works and both the zoom and focus rings sometimes move together and eventually the front element falls off again. I think it’s a loss. Unfortunately the 28-90mm is my most used lens. On a positive note, if there is one, it was one of the Sigma kit lenses (2 for $300) so it was fairly inexpensive. I really don’t want the expense of having to buy another lens right now, though. I would have rather bought the 550ex or 580ex instead. I’m going to check with the camera store to see if they can work any magic on it but I don’t think they will be able to. We’ll see.
Oh No!! Sorry to hear about your lens… Would be nice if it coul dbe fixed…. I really like your shot of the geese..

Great shot of the geese! Sorry to hear about your lens. Hopefully it’s a quick fix from the camera store.
