Day 28 – Backlit Leaves

It was an unusually warm day in upstate New York today…45F, sunny, and very few clouds in the sky. It was so nice to finally get out and take a little hike. My neighbor and I headed down to the marsh to locate a trail we hadn’t been on before. Except for hearing a few birds in the distance and seeing a flock of ducks fly overhead there wasn’t a creature to be seen. Surprisingly, though, we saw several swarms of mosquitos. I couldn’t believe it. I mean, I know it was a fairly warm day but it’s only January 28! I didn’t take many pictures today but there was some nice backlighting on berries, swamp plants, and this cluster of leaves. I wish I had taken more shots of this because I don’t really care for the composition…but it’s all I have and it was still my fave of the bunch.

I shot this in RAW, brought it into PS and ran ‘auto contrast’ on it. That’s it.

  1. Very nice DOF… a well executed isolation shot. I like it a lot.

  2. nice bokeh and composition. I wish the leaves had just a bit more room on the left though, I’m not sure why…

  3. Nice autumnal feel to this photo, which you wouldn’t expect in January! (I agree with Peter about the space on the left, though.)

  4. I like this shot. The colors are nice and I like the angle of the plant as well as the DOF. It has an oriental look to it. Nice use of negative space. :)

  5. Nice Bokeh – beautiful colors.

  6. Excellent depth of field here.

  7. I’m with Soni. Your DOF here is definitely spot on. Very good shot. Love the light capture.

  8. I love this photo. One of the best I’ve seen of the PAD’s I’ve been watching. Great depth of field and colour and lighting and composition.

  9. Cool Bokeh!
