Day 15 – Sun Pillar

Check it out! It’s barely after 7pm and I’m posting my PAD. First time that has happened!

There was a beautiful sunset tonight and with it came a sun pillar. I’m told sun pillars are formed due to ice crystals in the air.

This is as close to the real thing as I could come. It seems there was a bit more yellow emanating from the pillar but if I adjust the colors any more it loses detail and looks really fake. Oh well. Close enough for me.

I think I need to learn more about color space. I’ve really been noticing, since my PAD, that the colors are very different in IE. I’m not sure how to properly use color space to get the right look. I’m sure there’s something on DPC about it if I just look.

  1. Great sunset. Love the colors in the clouds. Nice capture.

  2. Nice shot. I think the unlevel composition here was a good choice but it may not have been by choice. Either way a good photo.

  3. Thanks, Vicki and James.

James, actually it’s not uneven. This is looking across the way from my house and it’s a hill. So it does naturally go down…it wasn’t me this time. ;-)

  4. Beautiful shot! Love the sun pillar and the warm orange tones. I know it didn’t feel anywhere near that warm outside! Nicely done!

  5. Great view. Great picture. It is amazing how many beautiful things are right near home. Don’t need to go on expensive trips to find these pictures.

  6. I was going to say it looked uneven, and then saw your comment. The colors look great. This is a nice sunset shot.

  7. Lovely sunset. Looks a bit like Mk’s sunset over the lake.

  8. That’s a gorgeous sunset. Love the pillar.

  9. Wonderful capture!

Do you use save for web in photoshop? If not, give it a try. Might help with the colours
